Dr. Andreas Skriver Hansen, Senior Researcher

Andreas Skriver Hansen is a historian and human geographer by training, specializing in the Nordic landscape research tradition. He is based at the Center for Regional and Tourism Research (CRT) on the island of Bornholm, Denmark, where he is a senior researcher and part of the center’s research team. Andreas previously held a position as lecturer and researcher in human geography at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, before returning to Denmark in 2022.

Andreas’ research mainly concentrates on tourism (e.g. nature-based, sustainable, regenerative), outdoor recreation, local/regional development, energy planning, and green transition. These research themes often links to other research areas, such as area management, physical planning, natural resource management as well as landscape studies. Andreas is also very interested in research on human-nature relations and interactions, landscape research in general, sustainable development, resilience, and UNESCO Biosphere areas. He often works in and with coastal and marine settings and communities as well as peripheral and island geographies around the globe.

Andreas loves working in the field, engaging and interacting with local people and stakeholders, thereby getting insight into views, perspectives and opinions ‘from the ground’. He is therefore also primarily a qualitative based researcher, working often with applied and action research and using ethnographic and participatory methods, including citizen science. Theoretically, he is based within phenomenological thinking.

Andreas is a board member in Tourism Researchers in Denmark (TiD) and the Nordic Society for Tourism and Hospitality Research (NORTHORS). Asides from being part an associate editor for Tourism in Marine Environments (TIME), he is also an associate editor for the Journal of Outdoor recreation and Tourism (JORT).
