Vinicius José Giglio, Ph.D.
Associate Editor, Tourism in Marine Environments
Dr. Vinicius J. Giglio is currently an associate professor at the Federal University of Western Pará. He is a biologist with a Ph.D. in Ecology, having developed his thesis on the sustainable use of coastal environments.
Vinicius’ research focuses on understanding how humans affect marine and coastal environments at multiple spatial scales and how biological communities respond to human-driven disturbances like behavioral changes and biotic homogenization. He combines experimental studies with the development of frameworks to understand the negative effects and devise strategies to mitigate potential impacts, aiming for sustainable use. Furthermore, he is interested in the local ecological knowledge of coastal human communities that develop community-based tourism, as well as in initiatives aimed at maintaining livelihoods and intergenerational knowledge transfer.
His publication record includes more than 100 research outputs, with over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles frequently appearing in high-impact journals such as Tourism Management, Journal of Sustainable Tourism, Environmental Management, Journal of Environmental Management, Marine Policy, and Ocean & Coastal Management. Vinicius is also an editor of respected journals in ecology and conservation, as well as a frequent reviewer for a variety of journals, from regional to leading ones.
