Clara Benevolo

Associate Editor, Tourism in Marine Environments

Clara Benevolo is Full Professor of Business Management at the University of Genoa (Italy). She is a member of the University of Genoa Centre for the Sea, which promotes interdisciplinary research and education on marine-related issues, and serves on the Management Committee of the Inter-University Research Centre on Tourism (CIRT).

Her research focuses on tourism management, destination governance, digital transformation, innovation and sustainability, with particular expertise in marine and coastal tourism, nautical tourism, tourist ports and marinas, and smart destinations. She has coordinated and participated in national and international research projects and has published books, book chapters and articles in leading international peer-reviewed journals.

Her research on nautical tourism has focused on marina and tourist port management, pleasure boater segmentation, digital communication, and sustainability. Her studies have advanced the managerial understanding of tourist ports as strategic actors within tourism destinations and provided insights into the characteristics, expectations and behaviour of pleasure boaters.

She serves on editorial and scientific boards, reviews for international journals, and is an ANVUR disciplinary expert for the evaluation of higher education and research in Italy.
