Analgesia provided original research reports and reviews involving rigorous ethical experimental studies on the basic mechanisms and therapeutics of pain relief. Preclinical studies were considered that were directed toward any aspect of pain pathways (e.g., anatomical, biochemical, molecular, pharmacological, or physiological) and their identification; that involved the study of neurotransmitters or modulators; or that investigated some aspect of known or experimental analgesic/antinociceptive compounds (including side effects). Clinical studies were considered that helped elucidate the mechanism of action of known analgesic drugs or that reported on the use of combinations. Novel methodological, statistical, theoretical, or mathematical approaches were considered.
